The Colour GREY

The other day i was thinking about the colour GREY.
It was a funny train of thought really.

I have always held a personal belief that rural India and people from the lower socio-economic strata have an inherent albeit simplistic life view as well as a certain joi de vivre, and hence prefer bright colours in their clothing and acoutrements.
It follows that urban settlers and higher socio-economic profiles would prefer muted and subtle tones.

Extending this logic, i think it may be possible that this is reflective in their rational thought and philosophies as well.
They do not see shades or grey tones. Its black or white.

The implications of this are many, including the fact that they would be missing out on so many possibilities that life may offer in any given circumstance. But due to a limited view and therefore a limited expectation of the outcome, they overlook the grey-tones.

Know Thyself ~

Sick of all those lame POP quizzes and personality tests ?

Heres a very good site i stumbled upon, which bases its test on a Primary Colour Preview. And unlike many others, the reults are good.

The report for me was quite accurate and fairly descriptive. And incase you're wondering, I'm a BLUE.

So click on the link below, its worth it !

The Monsoon

This is stuff i Love about the monsoon,

I LOVE -
1 ) Catching the drops on my tongue.
2 ) Driving thru puddles and watching the arc of water, as pedestrians cower and cringe.
3 ) Seeing drops of oil on the road and the rainbow colours they make.
4 ) Pile of Cow / Dog crap on the pavement, and how it gets all runny and spotted with raindrops.
5 ) When the umbrella gets inverted in a strong gust.
6 ) Gum boots
7 ) Feeling the gush on my umbrella beneath a rooftop drain pipe.
8 ) The first cough and cold of the season that goes around to everybody within the first 2 weeks.
9 ) People on bikes wearing their raincoats frontside back.
10 ) The first blades of new grass that pop up everywhere.
11 ) Deep grey thunder clouds.
12 ) Hot tea in a shanty while rain water drips thru the corrugated iron roof into the chai.
13 ) Women who get soaked in the rain trying to prevent their clothes from sticking to them, esp at the tits and butt.
14 ) When a strong head-on wind blows a womans salwar kameez tightly to her body, esp at the crotch and thighs.
15 ) Listening to the rain during a power cut.
16 ) Trucks and cars with one headlamp on the blink.
17 ) The smell of washed jeans that just wont dry.
18 ) Getting wet and cold, then coming home and having a hot bath and into dry clothes.
19 ) Sharing an umbrella with your sweetheart as you secretly snuggle up close with each other.
20 ) Wet street dogs who look so pathetic and cute at the same time.
21 ) Hot and Fresh mirchi / aloo bajjis.
22 ) Rainbows in the sky ( most commonly seen across the lake )

BATMAN BEGINS

Odd that I should be starting this new blog with a Film Review. But I just watched the movie last evening and its been nagging me ever since.

As with most new releases the post production is far better than the real thing.

We watched the movie at our local IMAX screen, though in my opinion the movie wasnt shot for the format, as too much of it was up-close and cropped, esp the fight scenes, which doesnt help very much in understanding who's doing what to whom.

To start with the movie begins in what appears to be the far east where Bruce goes off to learn from a mystical bunch of secret society NINJA vigilantes. WTF !

Cut back to his return to Gotham, which is a fusion of Chicago and parts of a Hong Kong shanty. The mono-rail which was supposed to be the key set, appears to stretch for not more than a kilometer, was tolearble but not believeable.

Bruce is too much Bruce with a vague love interest in some childhood friend.

Michael Caine is poorly cast as Alfred the butler, and delivers some lame one liners and is too stuck up on Bruce's father Mr Wayne.

The start of Bruce's transformation into Batman had potential, but was failed by his costume, gadgets and stunt scenes which dont deliver.
The Batmobile ( every kids dream car ) is a disater which looks like a Tractor meets Tank meets Modern Day Industrial Art, and has no real personality / superhero appeal.

The only thing I liked were a couple of sweeping night shots of the dark knight perched atop dizzing heights, looking down at Gotham.
And a line by the girl :
Its not who you are inside; its what you do that defines you.
Overall I left the movie with an urgent need to re-visit the first movie by TIM BURTON who in my opinion is a genius, and the only one who has done any justice to the character of Batman so far.
Overall I would rate the movie a 2.5 on 10

Why am I a Batman Fan ?

Batman has been my childhood hero as well as one of my heros in adulthood.
What makes him special is that he is essentially human with no real super-powers.
He develops and makes his own weaponry and gadgets.
He has a kick-ass car.
He inspires people to join him and be like him. ( Robin )
He wears a sexy black costume.
He is a deeply disturbed man, who in addition to crime fighting, is also at war with his own self where he lead a dual existence as Bruce and as Batman.
He cannot let one persona completely override the other, and within that context he seeks a balance in his life.

I guess somewhere we all need our Heros, to inspire us to be greater than we currently are, as well as pursue those ideals which our daily life doesnt hold.
