Electronic Life

My life currently has many electronic devices for "better living". Here is the list :

1) A microwave to cook my food and preserve nutritional value.

2) A desktop computer at home for educational and recreational purposes. ( with built in IEEE socket, DVD / CD read write, Flash Drive, 6 USB ports, 2 broadband modems, one inbuilt standard 56k modem, 5.1 Dolby speakers, All-in-one scanner cum copier cum printer )

3) I have more remote controls than i have hands to operate. :

a) For the bedroom Air conditioning
b) For the CD player
c) For the amplifier
d) For the DVD player ( that plays any imaginable format )
e) For the television ( with child lock )
f) For the car anti-theft locking system
4) A car with an MPFI 16 bit micro-processor controlled engine for better performance.
5) A car stereo.
6) A pen-drive which i carry around in my pocket, since i stopped carrying "real" files and hard-copies.
7) A micro-processor controlled washing machine that determines optimal wash cycles for my shirts and underwear separately.
8 ) A multimedia enabled mobile phone that can also browse the net and a hands-free attachment for road safety.
9 ) A digital answering machine cum cordless phone. Plus one basic phone.
So i quit wearing my watch ................. since July 2003.

Insomnia and Coldplay

Its 0242 hrs, and sleep is nowhere in sight.

The night began with DMB, progressed into Nina Simone, whose jazz classic by the way - My baby just cares for me is my all-time Number 1 !! ( since 1988 )

From there Coldplay was the only logical choice.

So i began listening to some COLDPLAY, and came up with some interesting stuff on CHRIS MARTIN, not to mention this Fabulous site !

You should listen to Alisha sing "Yellow".....

Immortality

I recently had this most curious thought.

What if i were able to put as much of my life experiences up on the internet in the form of text, images or VDO. It would then be some kind of digital repository, akin to the human mind.
And although limited to whatever the content that was placed, it would still be digitally faithful to the original. Unlike the human mind that forgets stuff over a period of time.

Now assuming i hosted all this on a free webspace service provider, and i logged in frequently enough to keep the account live, i would have this multimedia biography that would keep building up over the years. ( Similar to a printed biography, yet different by way of multimedia )

Before i pass away, i'd hand over the login details to someone who'd preserve and add to it.
And before you know it.... IMMORTALITY !!

This thinking is based on an earlier thought of mine, where i've concluded that we as humans have our individual personalities ekked out from our life experiences which are stored as memories.

A person is suspicious if he has had frequent interactions with people who were untrustworthy.
Or a thief is so, if he is forced to steal knowing he has no money / or that he has done it earlier.

So if we were to erase a person's memory, what would he be like ? Would he have the same personality ? I dont think so.

Now if i were to preserve my memories, my style of thinking, my behaviour patterns, my personal prejudices, opinions etc via an AIML method, like the ALICE Bot; you could theoretically, and to some extent practically continue to interact with me long after i'm gone !!

( For more details on AIML, go to the ALICE project here )

It may not be the real thing, but I think it would offer a pretty close option. What do you think ?

Armaan at Age 1yr

Armaan here aged about 1 yr old.

Quite the ruffian ( shirt un-buttoned and all ), screams, shouts, bites, whacks, scratches all around him into submission and into doing his will.

The Pink Family.

On my right is my cousin Moses from Bombay; who was visiting sometime mid June 05.
And all the while he was Alisha kept saying -

"Moses supposes his toeses are Roses..."

Sometimes i cant tell if they look more like me or me like them.

One day i got home from work, to see that Alisha had put on all these chaddis one over the other. At first i couldnt quite tell what she had worn, until i asked her to take them off one at a time, and began counting them to see 10 !! Here she is with the 10 around her.

Alisha cycles quite well now. But having watched Po on her scooter in Tele Tubbies, she is now convinced she wants what she calls - a "LaLa scooter." She's saving up money for it, and keeps wondering when she'll have enough to buy one.

This is Alisha's crew.

( From Left to Right )

Bambi, Deeno ( currently tied ), Moo Cow ( at the back ), and Giraffe.

His first few steps were sideways. And over the last few days he has been practising a lot, and is getting quite good at it.

However, there are times when he stand up and sets out towards the dining table for example, but finds he has reached the main-door by some strange means.

Princess Alisha.
