I recently had this most curious thought.
What if i were able to put as much of my life experiences up on the internet in the form of text, images or VDO. It would then be some kind of digital repository, akin to the human mind.
And although limited to whatever the content that was placed, it would still be digitally faithful to the original. Unlike the human mind that forgets stuff over a period of time.
Now assuming i hosted all this on a free webspace service provider, and i logged in frequently enough to keep the account live, i would have this multimedia biography that would keep building up over the years. ( Similar to a printed biography, yet different by way of multimedia )
Before i pass away, i'd hand over the login details to someone who'd preserve and add to it.
And before you know it.... IMMORTALITY !!
This thinking is based on an earlier thought of mine, where i've concluded that we as humans have our individual personalities ekked out from our life experiences which are stored as memories.
A person is suspicious if he has had frequent interactions with people who were untrustworthy.
Or a thief is so, if he is forced to steal knowing he has no money / or that he has done it earlier.
So if we were to erase a person's memory, what would he be like ? Would he have the same personality ? I dont think so.
Now if i were to preserve my memories, my style of thinking, my behaviour patterns, my personal prejudices, opinions etc via an AIML method, like the ALICE Bot; you could theoretically, and to some extent practically continue to interact with me long after i'm gone !!
( For more details on AIML, go to the ALICE project here )
It may not be the real thing, but I think it would offer a pretty close option. What do you think ?
